? home about gallery shop bcac rules application form links contact 2017/2018 membership now available st george's 2011 update at last; a hot summer and the grass carp get caught. only one of them, and not the largest, but at 35lb well worth catching. it's estimated that the biggest grassie must be touching 40lb now so a few of the st. georges members will be floater fishing in 2011 trying to land it. the other big news from 2010 was a new 40lber at 41.04, check the gallery for picture. the question mark hit 45lb and still comes out regularly- in fact on the opening weekend of 2011 he was caught twice! plenty of 30's showed, some at 37-38lb such as the fish known as "cps" . new stock has been introduced this year, 50 fish of the leney strain from v.s. fisheries. these are only small, weighing around 5lb but are cracking looking fish and should grow quickly. business as usual - september 2009 it's been business as usual on st. georges this summer; blanks followed by multiple catches, another no-show from the grassies, and the question mark coming out at least 6 times that we know of- to andy burnham, grahame rudley,starman,felix d & nash tackle consultant mike hall. read his account here . 2009 has also seen some continental anglers fishing the lake, dennis de wilde from holland loved the place- he had 16 fish in 4 days and can't wait to?come back, this is his report. into october and the carp are still feeding well, starman has caught his 83rd fish in 41 nights, that's an average of 2 a night- how can anyone say that st. georges is hard?!? winter tickets on sale now. breaking news at st. george's - monday 28th may 2008 the fishing on st. georges was slow due to the cold winter of 2008/9, but carp were still caught by anglers brave enough to stick it out. steve renyard from the excellent "advanced carp fishing" magazine came down on a freezing weekend in december; read his write up here. once temperatures started rising the carp switched on and the season ended with some great catches, the lake record the "question mark" coming out again and again. "george" the big original was caught by neil terry (again!) in tip top condition at 36lb. the new season started on april 23rd and immediately new members were seeing plenty of action, antony edwards had 11 fish between 18lb and 24lb in one night. the bigger fish started showing in may, some stunning upper 20s and a handful of new 30s were landed. with this summer looking to be a good one everyone is hoping that the elusive grass carp make an appearance, as they were last caught 3 years ago,with the biggest just under 30lb... a fitting reward for extra effort - june / july, 2008 june and july 2008 saw the fishing on st. georges slow down slightly, which was?somewhat inevitable after such an action-packed may. however, anglers who were prepared to put the extra effort in were rewarded with some fantastic catches, such as phil randall with this 29lb 10oz mirror . dave grimmer put in a heavy pre-baiting campaign which resulted in him landing a 29.9 common, then the famous "george". bob bertram , a newcomer to carp fishing, also pre-baited hoping to catch his first twenty. on a four day session he had a 27 on the first night, then went on to catch eleven more, culminating in landing "the question mark" at 43lb. well done mate!! the "question mark" comes out at 39lb.12oz - october 2007 the mild winter of 2006/7 saw the fishing on st.georges carry on right through. the lake record was broken again on dec 12th by darren solley with "the question mark" at 37lb. several stockies broke the 30lb barrier, including this 31 to gary irvine (left). june 2007 was a fantastic month for many of the members- more new 30s including a 33 off the top, the black common hit 31 and andy cole had a brace of 36lbers including george at a new top weight (below). the lake also continues to throw up the odd suprise; glen alden had a fully-scaled mirror which is definitely not a simmo's and no one can remember having seen before. who knows what else could be in there? 2006 - new lake record! st. georges most famous resident, george, has finally been overtaken. this stunning mirror, seen here with neil terry, grows by nearly 8lb a year and has now hit 35lb 2oz. neil is one of the few anglers to take advantage of the new rule allowing floater fishing and he's cleaned up! he's had well over 100 carp so far this season, including 14 in one afternoon, many of these coming "off the top". may 2008 has been the best month on st.georges so far. the question mark has been out 3 times: at 41lb 3oz then twice in a week, to lee gifford at 42lb then to mark johnson at 43lb . 10 thirties have also been caught including this 31.15 to chris pemberton . some spectacular multiple catches have also been reported, such as by?luke brindley who took 17 carp to 25lb in 24 hours - he was so knackered he had to wind in; his pal took over and took 7 more!" carp talk write -up also to bank the "q.m" was schoolboy jake stockwell. news from 2006 andy cole has also been getting among them - this is him with a superb brace of mid-twenties. and what a season 13 year old chris gibson is having. in july he caught the "question mark" at 31lb then in september, in the space of an hour, he landed 2 of the most sought after fish in the lake: the black common at 29lb followed by george at 31.8. maybe his uncle, fishery owner chris, has been giving him advice; but the way he's been catching lately young chris could teach us all a thing or two!. copyright © 2015 still water leisure. all rights reserved.
